Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in Maryland - I am a mixed media artist, creating what I feel is pleasing to the eye and therapeutic to the soul. With bold colors and subtle touches of calm tones, I find that my work visually stimulates your gaze and slows down your pace towards peace.
Always having interest in design and fashion, I am a self-taught visual artist, finding pleasure in geometric arrangements, complimented with the use of vibrant yet soothing color choices. Using the materials I've accumulated over the past 6 years of creating, I like to practice the concept of up-cycling, bringing a new life to scraps of paper, strings of yarn, sticks, flowers, bubble wrap, at times - even Chinese food menus! I am experimental in mixing minimalistic elements with tactile components, and expressing through abstract.
For example, I like to cherish flowers past their prime – “dead” stage, and repurpose its life as a focus or portion of a mixed media collage. Their delicate, yet sturdy nature add a special dimension to every piece as I portray my appreciation for it’s remained and reclaimed strength and beauty that I see. Merging this with the warmest to the coldest of hues influenced by nature, my choice of colors add a bold composition and simplicity to the overall piece. From the neutrals in soil, bark and branches, to the vibrancy seen all around in petals, the sky, and in every single thing surrounding us daily; I release my visual inspirations and fascinations into my craft, mirroring what I find withhold a memorable, colorful and creative energy.
My personal creative growth is in no way a linear journey. It is very much abstract to me. A vibrant energy-driven ride that is bold, and it is soft. It is impulsive yet careful, it is sharp, protective and gentle; fluctuating with the passions and periods in time. During my personal journey, I hope to continue my pleasure in executing and developing my style in abstract minimalism through mixed media collage. I hope to keep the momentum alive by remaining patient with myself, confident and interested in pushing my limits. Gracefully floating with my wonders and curiosities of design arrangements on platforms such as wood panels and canvas, this feather has a sharp tip handy to ground myself into my vision sincerely, and steadily.
